New toys

March 2, 2008

EXPENSIVE new toys. We got a new washer and dryer! new-washer-and-dryer-003.jpgI’m not sure you can call these toys – laundry is an awful lot of work to be considered fun. We knew our dryer would not last much longer (Kenny had to tape the handle on it, for heaven’s sake – and he used camouflage duct tape, really lovely) so we thought it would be better to get a new dryer before the old one died. After all, we want to sell it, and it will be hard to sell a dryer that doesn’t work. We decided to get a new washer, too, because we didn’t know how old the washer we had was (the washer and dryer both came with the house). And, I like things to be matching – probably not a good reason to get a new washer, but oh well! The cats don’t know what to think of these machines that now share their dining room.

Thursday night Kenny and I discussed waiting until Nebraska Furniture Mart had another “no interest if paid by” event so we could put it our NFM credit card. new-washer-and-dryer-001.jpgThe next morning (February 29th) I saw a commercial for their weekend-only event in honor of leap year – no interest if paid in 29 months (yes, that’s August 2010). Can you really argue with that? Kenny’s a little disappointed, because it means his LCD TV has been put off yet again, but I continue to assure him that if we didn’t have a washer and dryer, our clothes wouldn’t be clean, we would smell, and no one would come over to watch his TV with him. Silly priorities. He might get his TV someday, but I don’t think he should hold his breath.

Tomorrow (Sunday) is Kenny’s birthday, and anytime I asked him what he wants for his birthday, he tells me, “I just can’t stop thinking about a TV.” new-washer-and-dryer-006.jpgDream on, dear. I have not been secretly putting aside $1000 to surprise you with a TV. I don’t mean to disappoint, but I don’t want you to get your hopes up. Instead, he’s getting the newest Harry Potter movie on DVD, a 3 gallon water jug that he requested (that still technically resides at Dick’s Sporting Goods) and floor tickets to one of the KC Brigades game (still at the box office). We are going to his parents’ house to celebrate his birthday with his family. Fred, Kenny’s dad, has a birthday later this week, so they often celebrate together, and this year is no exception.
